Victor Wanyama became the first player from East African region to captain an English club after he guided Southampton to a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in Capital One Cup on Wednesday night.
Wanyama, who joined the Saints from Celtic two seasons ago, was influential as second half goals from Maya Yoshinda and Graziano Pelle ensured that the Saints qualified for the quarters where they will now play host to Liverpool.

Wanyama was delighted for his latest achievement. “It was a nice feeling walking down the tunnel for the first time as a Southampton captain. I couldn’t believe when the gaffer confirmed that I will captain the side for the night,” Wanyama told Goal.
“It was an amazing feeling and I want to thank God for bringing me this far. We played well though Aston Villa threatened late on. It was good to captain the side to victory and our aim is to go as far as we can in this competition.”
