A JKUAT female student makes Sh 20,000 monthly selling pregnancy test kits to students .

A student from JKUAT is making thousands of shillings from selling pregnancy test kits to fellow students. Sheila Mwaniki started the business after she realised some students could not openly buy pregnancy test kits in pharmacies or chemists. Sheila secretly sells the test kits to Kenyatta University and JKUAT students. The kits go for Sh150, a price that shoots to Sh200 if she has to explain to novice customers how to use it. Sheila who got the idea from her boyfriend says: “I buy a single kit at Sh40. Ordinarily, the kits cost Sh50 in public hospital facilities and and Sh100 in chemists. But because I have to deliver it secretly to your room, I charge Sh50 more. We make around 20,000 a month from selling over 200 kits ,” she says. “Surprisingly, a number of my clients are male students, who most of the time want to confirm their partners’ pregnancy claims,” she adds.
